Synopsis:
Les presides over a pawnshop in Footscray, a multi-ethnic suburb of Melbourne with his assistant Danny. He treats all his customers with the same no-nonsense, all-business attitude, though they come from a wide variety of backgrounds. It is through these backgrounds that we get a glimpse of the myriad of kooky characters in the film; from a young suitor looking for a wedding ring to a family man with a very niche interest. Pawno also offers audiences a peek into the lives of two good-hearted hobos, Carlo and Pauly, who provide light-hearted entertainment, as well as the neighbouring stores to show how these businesses interact with one another to form a sense of community. Eventually, one of these interactions leads to Les striking a deal of a lifetime.
